Configure Email on an iPhone/iPad

Follow these steps to add an email account to an iOS device.

  1. On the iPhone, tap Settings
  2. Tap Mail, (or Mail, Contacts, Calendars on old versions of iOS)
  3. Tap Accounts
  4. Tap Add Account
  5. Tap Other
  6. Tap Add Mail Account
  7. Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
  8. Click Next - this will now be looking up account
  9. Ensure IMAP is selected
  10. Enter your incoming mail server information:
    • Hostname is generally mail.[domainname], in our example, our domain name is wannadomain.co.uk therefore we would enter mail.wannadomain.co.uk
    • Username is your full email address
    • Password is the same password used to access webmail.
  11. Enter your outgoing mail server information:
    • Hostname is generally mail.[domainname], in our example, our domain name is wannadomain.co.uk therefore we would enter mail.wannadomain.co.uk
    • Username is your full email address
    • Password is the same password used to access webmail.
  12. Tap Next.
  13. The iPhone will attempt to establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers. If this succeeds, you will be done and can proceed to step 14. If this fails, you will see the prompt, "Cannot Verify Server Identity"
    • Click Details
    • Tap Trust (top right), it will then verify the server details.
  14. Tap Save once you see everything has a tick beside it.
  15. Tap the account you just added (identified by your email address), tap Account again
  16. Scroll down and tap the SMTP button.
  17. Select the server you just added, identified by the hostname from step 9.
  18. Select OFF for Use SSL.
  19. Select Password for Authentication
  20. Select 25 for Server Port.
  21. Tap the Done button to go back.
  22. Tap < Account to go back.
  23. Tap Advanced.
  24. Scroll down to Incoming Settings.
  25. Select OFF for Use SSL.
  26. Select Password for Authentication.
  27. Select 143 for Server Port.
  28. Tap your email address to go back.
  29. Tap < Account to go back.
  30. Tap the Done button, allow it to verify.
  31. Once complete, tap the Home Button.
  32. Tap the Mail App to check your configuration.
